I was a little concerned at first because the Kenda tires were heavy duty on the tread portion, but the sidewalls seemed thin. However, I counted on the thick tubes to help out with this. Since mounting both tires, I've put the bike through the real test -- gravel and cactus-covered trails in the AZ mountains. They give me grip, both uphill, downhill with both brakes applied in a 2-wheel skid -- and side-to-side.
By the way, when mounting these yourself, a trick taught me by a repair-guy at my local bike shop might help. Get your old tires off, of course. Put just a little air in the tube(s) -- and on slime tubes, turn so the stem is at the top, so you don't get any goop leaking out. The air will give the tube some shape. Put some dish-soap in warm water in an old bowl. Dip the tube in, bit by bit, until it's all wet. This will let it slide inside the tire if you need to do any adjusting. Put the tube inside the tire. Now take the slippery soapy water in hand and wet the tire on both outer sides where it will met the metal rim. Now start to lever the tire onto the rim -- starting with the tube stem placed through the hole in the metal. Get the whole inner bead on the far side (away from you) seated inside the wheel. If you need to, push and pull a little to make sure the stem is still lined up -- you don't want it bent in any way. I managed to do the next bit all by hand, but if you need help, you can use a big blunt flathead screwdriver to help you pry. Just don't pinch the tube! Lever the tire onto the wheel rim. Once in place, inflate the tire. Now you're ready to mount it on the bike.
Buying this tire (and the other, plus tubes) and doing the work myself, saved me somewhere between $50 and $100.

I've used this tire on a Klein Adroit (hard tail) and currently on my Santa Cruz Heckler (full suspension), and have been very happy with it. I'm 200lbs, and only get to ride about 30 times a year, so I appreciate a tire that is inexpensive, but doesn't leave me wishing for more traction to climb a sandy slope.
The only place I don't really like this tire is on pavement, the lugs are spaced far enough apart that I can feel the drag when I'm cruising along on a leisure ride with my girlfriend, but at 65psi, it's tolerable for a few miles.
Bottom line, it outperforms the more expensive tire that was on my Heckler when I bought it, and I've convinced two friends to switch, and they were amazed with how good it is for the price.
Low price tires usually have black sidewalls with no designs whatsoever, so I like to fill in the letters with paint pens. Unfortunately, the "KENDA" letters on the sidewalls of these tires are about a half inch tall and are puny.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no width standard for MTB tires. Each manufacturer has their own arbitrary system. The "width" is the approximate length of the arc from what the manufacturer considers to be the outer treads, edge to edge - not the diameter of an inflated tire. You can only rely on the numbers to compare relative widths of the same series tires by the same manufacturer. That being said, the width rating has become more standardized as tire manufacturers go through mergers and source tires from the same factories.
Never bought bike tires like that and was not sure how tough a folded up tire could be.
So I was happy these came fully shaped and ready to go.
Have not had them long so will have to see how long they last, but they have a cool deep tread that grip the terrain well. Even mud.
